This is a rare condition that affects the interstitium or scaffolding of the lungs, causing inflammation, scarring, and fibrosis. Lung fibrosis can be caused by a number of different diseases. Specific medicines, radiation, certain vocations, and exposure to pigeon droppings are known causes, thus a thorough history of occupational and environmental exposures is required.
